Checkpoints
Due to increasing enrollment and interest, Novi Middle School Science Olympiad will adopt a team structure similar to that of Novi High School's. We will start to administer a 2 round checkpoint tests to students as an assessment of their knowledge in their events. Build events will be run through a tryout system, while Hybrid events may eventually include lab portions. There will be 4 teams total. Further checkpoints will be administered to decide final team spots.
Summer Build Clinic (NEW for 2025-26)
To preserve our enduring legacy of excellence in building, the Novi Middle School Science Olympiad—supported by the High School Science Olympiad— has established a summer build clinic. Students will learn the fundamentals of design using CAD, as well as gain hands-on experience in building and testing. More details will be released soon.
Invitationals
Our team participates in several invitational tournaments throughout the season. Invitationals give students an opportunity to demonstrate what they have learned, while competing against students from other schools. Invitational teams will be entirely merit-based.
Regional, State, National Tournaments
Students from these inaugural teams will have the opportunity to be placed on one of 3 teams for the Michigan Region 6 Tournament, typically held at the Detroit Country Day School in early-March.
Novi Middle School has consistently advanced to the State Tournament since 2021 as a result of strong performance at the Regional Tournament. The Michigan State Tournament will be held at Michigan State University in April 2026.
Novi Middle School will have the chance to earn a bid to the National Tournament by placing in the top 2 teams in the Michigan State Tournament. For the 2025-2026 Science Olympiad season, the National Tournament will be held at the University of Southern California.
